Lake Aeration

In the fall of 1997, the Rural Municipality of Rossburn purchased a Written-Pole® single-phase motor for use in a lake aeration system. The primary motivation for this decision was the high cost of providing three-phase service to the site and the reduction in annual operating costs made possible by the energy efficient design of the Written-Pole® motor.
The 20 horsepower, 3600 rpm motor drives a rotary lobe blower, which supplies low pressure air for an underwater piping system used to aerate the lake during the winter months. The application requires continuous operation of this motor from early November through to ice-break up in spring, approximately 4,000 hours per year. The unit is in its second season of operation and continues to provide reliable service for the municipality.
