Grain
Cleaning/Rolling Mill
The MeLeod Harvester is a new and innovative approach of harvesting cereal
crops. One component of this system is a stationary yard plant used to
separate high protein chaff from the grain. In addition to cleaning
equipment, the plant contains a rolling mill for cracking seeds contained
in the chaff.
The prototype yard plant is powered with a single 30 hp, 1800 rpm
Written-Pole®
single-phase motor. This design enables the unit to be used on farm sites
without creating a requirement for three-phase power. Future designs call
for the use of a 40 hp Written-Pole®
motor allowing for increased throughput and enhanced operation.
In addition to being an efficient and clean form or power, the gradual
starting acceleration of the Written-Pole®
motor reduces wear and tear on mechanical components, improving the long
term reliability of the plant.
