Written-Pole®
Single-Phase Motors Written-Pole® single-phase motors provide a viable alternative to three-phase power when motive power requirements exceed 10 horsepower. Manitoba Hydro has installed several Written-Pole® single-phase motors in Manitoba as part of a field-testing program to evaluate the effectiveness of this new technology. Under this testing program, Written-Pole® motors were installed in a wide variety of applications ranging from irrigation to grain drying and oil production. |

| In each installation, Manitoba Hydro was able to demonstrate that three-phase power was not a requirement for operating motor loads in excess of 20 hp. In addition, the simple, energy efficient design of the Written-Pole® single-phase motor results in improved performance and reduced operating costs when compared to commonly used alternatives such as diesel engines or phase converters and three-phase motors. | ||
